Why Did the Colors Switch on the Electoral Vote Maps?

If you look at an electoral college map between 1856 and 1980, the Republicans are blue and the DemocRATs are red. In 1984, however, the colors are switched, and they have remained since then. I find this strange because the Democrats, which is the party of all communists, socialists and demoralized left-wing radicals who have no belief in God, and a god-less society that has an obsession with death and appeasement is typically ociated with the color red, since that is the main color of socialism and communism. What caused this switch and why?
